CHENIRAM PEGU CLINCHED TITLE
Cheniram Pegu of Dibrugarh clinched the title in 43rd All Assam Inter District Chess Championship-2021 (Senior) by scoring 7.5 points from 8 rounds. In the final round Cheniram beat former Champion Trailokya Nanda of Jorhat. Santanu Borpatra Gohain of Sivasagar got second position by scoring 6.5 points from same number of rounds. Shantanu beat Nihad Islam Hazarika of Guwahati in the eighth round. Rajdeep Das and Iftikar Alam Mazumder both from Cachar also scored 6.5 points but declared third and fourth respectively on the basis of tie-break score. In the final round Rajddep beat Nilabh Jyoti Barthakur of Jorhat and Ifitiakr beat Rakesh Chakraborty of Jorhat. These four players are selected to represent Assam in National Senior Chess Championship. Abhra Jyoti Nath of Cachar, Mayank Chakraborty of Guwahati, Soram Rahul Singh of Cachar, Sashanka Shandilya of Darrang, Dhruv Phukan of Dibrugarh and Anurag Pritam Medhi of Sivasagar scored 6 points each and placed fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth respectively. Mrinmoy Rajkhowa of Guwahati, Simanta Das of Tezpur, Monimohan Singh of Golaghat and Riturasj Tamuli of Sivasagar also scored 6 points and placed eleventh, twelfth, thirteenth and fourteenth respectively. Rakesh Chakraborty got 15th position by scoring 5.5 points.

Chirarajan Bhuyan of Guwahati adjudged best veteran while Urza Hazarika adjudged best women player. Chiraranjan Buyan scored 5.5 points and Urza scord 5 points from 8 rounds. Tanveer Ahmed of Darrang scored 4.5 points and got first position in under 13 category (Boys) while Karnav P Deka of Guwahati got second position in under 13 cagory (Boys) scoring 3.5 points. Chararvy Choudhury of Guwahati got first position in under 13 Girls category by scoring 4.5 points while Daisey Datta also of Guwahati got second position in this category by scor9ing 4 points.
In under 11 boys category Abhirup Saikia of Guwahati scored 5.5 points and got first position while Tanmoy Rajbangshi also of Guwahati scored 5 points and got second position in this category. Nirali Gogoi of North Lakhimpur got first position in under 11 Girls category by scoring 2,5 points. Snigdha Bhowmick of Guwahati also scored 2.5 point but she was declared second on the basis of tie-break score.
Emil Borgohain of Guwahati got first position by scoring 4 points in under 9 Boys category, Krishnav Mrinmoy Hazarika also scored 4 points and got second position in this category. Yati Agarwal got first position in under 9 Girls category by scoring 4 points and Shristi Rupa Roy also of Guwahati scored 3,5 points and got second position in this category.
Arohan of Guwahati scored 3 points and got first position in under 7 boys’ category while Bhowmik Kishore Das scored 2points and got second position. Suzein Ahmed of Darrang and Ameya Gupta of Guwahati both scored 3.5 points and declared first and second in under 7 category according to their tie-break score.

The tournament was organized by All Assam Chess Association in co-operation with Central Sports Club at Shemford Futuristic School, Guwahati from 22nd March to 25th March 2021. The tournament was held in swiss league system for 8 rounds in classical time format. Fide Arbiter M Arun Singh conducted the tournament as Chief Arbiter and Mr. Ravikant Tiwari was tournament director. Chief arbiter was ably assisted by Senior National Arbiter Pranab Kumar Nath, Fide Arbiter Salina Masum and National Arbiter Monimala Sinha.
Dr. Shiben Dutta grace the prize distribution ceremony as chief Guest while Dr Devajit Sharma was guest of Honor.
