Sunday Rapid Chess Tournament

CHAARVI CHOUDHURY CLINCHED THE TITLE

Chaarvi Choudhury clinched the title in Sunday Rapid Chess Tournament organized by Guwahati Chess Academy on 9th January, 2022 at Academy premises at R G Baruah Road, Guwahati.

Chaarvi scored 5.5 points from 6 rounds and remains unbeaten throughout the tournament. In the final rounds she drew with Rishav Barman.

Rishav Barman got second position by scoring 4.5 points.

Pre-tournament favorite and top seed Debanga Kalita also scored 4,5 points but he was declared third on the basis of tie-break score.

Youngster Himanish Kumar Sharma also scored 4.5 points each but declared fourth respectively on the basis of tie-break score

Another youngster Sahaj Gupta got 5th position by scoring 4 points.

Under-9 category player Ameya Gupta also scored 4 points and she was adjudged best girl of the tournament.

Shuvang Pran Kashyap got first position by scoring 3.5 points in under 13 category. Pratyush Pathak scored 1.5 points and got second position.

Nibhriti Goswami scored 3 points and got first position in under 11 category. Jagajit Sinha and Swapnil Kar also scored 3 points each but declared second and third on the basis of their tie-break score.

Rajat Bafna scored 3 points and got first position in under-9 category. Aarav Bucha scored 2 points in this category and got second position. Neehar Das also scored 2 points but he was declared third on the basis of tie-break score.

Dhyanyata Goswami got first position in under-7 category and . Dhirhan Goswami got second position.

Altogether 22 players including 6 International Fide Rated players participated in the tournament. The tournament was conducted in swiss league system for 6 rounds with rapid time control of 20 minutes each side. Top five players were awarded cash prizes and trophy. Senior National Arbiter and Fide Instructor Pranab Kumar Nath conducted the tournament as Chief Arbiter and he is ably assisted by Kh Jintu Singha as deputy Arbiter.

The media also given the tournament wide publicity. Assam Tribune, Dainik Janambhumi, Amar Asom, Dainik Jugasnahka etc paper gave prominent space in their sports column, Dainik Assam published their report with a photo.
